Baseball Beats Rockford in Non-Conference Play
The Dominican University baseball team improved to 3-7 on the young season with a 5-0 win over Rockford College. The win was the Stars’ third straight victory after beginning the season 0-7.
Junior right-hander Bret Dvorak (Elmwood Park, IL) picked up the win for the Stars with a complete game, two-hit shutout of the Regents. Dvorak faced just 31 batters in the win, scattering two hits and three walks over nine innings while striking out nine. Dvorak picked up his second win in as many games and has yet to surrender an earned run on the season in 22.0 innings pitched.
Sophomore Mike Eifel (Midlothian, IL) went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored a pair of runs for the Stars. Eifel led off the second inning with a double to deep right field and later scored on a fielder’s choice.
Junior Brian Herman (Chicago, IL) drove in a pair of runs while freshman Colby Batchelor (Northridge, CA) logged three hits on the day to improve his batting average to .400.
The Stars will open up Lake Michigan Conference (LMC) play on Friday as they travel to Wisconsin Lutheran College for a single game at 3:00 p.m. and then return home on Saturday for a doubleheader with the Warriors at 12:00 p.m.
