Dvorak Named Back-to-back Player of the Week
The Lake Michigan Conference (LMC) named Dominican University right-hander Bret Dvorak (Elmwood Park, IL) the Player of the Week for the second week in a row. Dvorak shares the honor this time with Edgewood College’s Andrew Handorf who went 12-for-21 at the plate last week with a slugging percentage of .810 and an on-base percentage of .609.
Dvorak, now 2-1 on the young season, tossed a complete-game, nine-inning shutout against Rockford College on Friday, March 17. Dvorak surrendered just two hits and three walks as he struck out nine en route to 5-0 win for the Stars.
In 22.0 innings pitched, Dvorak has yet to surrender an earned run in the 2006 season. His strikeout-to-walk ratio is better than 2:1 with 26 strikeouts to just 12 walks and he has surrendered just 10 hits in three starts with opponents hitting just .130 against him.
Dvorak and the Stars return to action on Friday, March 24, as they open LMC play at Wisconsin Lutheran College. The two teams then travel to Dominican University for a doubleheader on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
