DU Partners With Chicago Latino Film Festival

Dominican University will present two films screenings, on April 25 and 26, in collaboration with the 22nd Annual Chicago Latino Film Festival. Mi Mejor Enemigo (My Best Enemy) will be shown on April 25 and Mi Abuelo, Mi Papa y Yo (My Grandfather, My Father and I) will be shown on April 26. Both films will be presented at 7:30 p.m. in Eloise Martin Recital Hall, 7900 W. Division Street, River Forest.

Mi Mejor Enemigo, directed by Alex Bowen, takes place in December of 1978 as Chile and Argentina are on the verge of war in the southern region of Patagonia. A Chilean platoon becomes lost after breaking its compass and eventually finds itself in enemy territory. With both the Chilean and Argentinean platoons poised for battle, a tense waiting game ensues during which friendships develop, making the prospect of war suddenly profoundly disconcerting. In this compelling and entertaining comedy, the relationships between the soldiers point out the ambiguity of war, duty and sentiment.

Mi Abuelo, Mi Papa Y Yo, directed by Dario Armando Garcia and J.C. Vasquez, focuses on three phases of love: the thrill of first love, the sometimes suffocating love between spouses, and mature love, which teaches us that when we love, we are always young.

Both films will be presented in Spanish with English subtitles. A reception will precede each film at 7:00 p.m. and a discussion will follow each screening. General admission is $10.00, which includes the reception. For more information on these films, call (708) 524-6678.

“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
