DU Presents Leon Lederman in Lund-Gill Lecture

Dominican University is proud to present a lecture by internationally renowned physicist Leon M. Lederman, holder of the university’s first Lund-Gill Chair, titled “Does Science Answer All Questions?” on Monday, March 13 at 4:30 p.m. in the recital hall of the Fine Arts Building, 7900 W. Division Street, River Forest.

During a remarkable career spanning more than four decades, Dr. Lederman’s research has ranged from subatomic-article physics through pioneering experiments with neutrino beams to the discovery of the third generation of quarks. His many honors include the 1988 Nobel Prize in Physics, the National Medal of Science and the Enrico Fermi Prize presented by President Bill Clinton in 1993.

Lederman is director emeritus of Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory and founder of the Teachers Academy for Mathematics and Science. He served as chair of the State of Illinois Governor’s Science Advisory Committee and is a founder of the inaugural resident scholar program at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy.

While serving as the first Lund-Gill Chair at Dominican University, Lederman has been teaching a junior honors seminar on science, technology and education in the 21st century. The Lund-Gill Chair, named in honor of former Dominican University President Sr. Candida Lund, OP and former Professor of English Sr. Mary Cyrille Gill, OP, was created to bring to campus each year an individual of the highest moral and intellectual reputation who can address themes and issues at the heart of the liberal arts and sciences and at the intersection of academia and society.

This lecture, which is part of groundbreaking festivities for the university’s new Parmer Hall, is free and open to the public. For more information, please call (708) 524-6814.

“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
