Basketball makes move in conference standings
With a pair of Lake Michigan Conference (LMC) victories last week over Maranatha Baptist Bible College, 80-52, and Concordia University (WI), 77-72, the Stars have moved into sole possession of third place in the conference standings with a 4-2 record.
On Saturday, the Stars knocked off the Concordia University (WI) Falcons on the road. Sophomore Mike Haiduc (Chicago, IL) poured in a game-high 21 points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked three shots to lift the Stars past the Falcons. Haiduc, who has scored 20+ points five times this season, shot 10-of-12 from the field and raised his field goal percentage to 58.2% for the season. James Seaton (Chicago, IL) added 13 points, going 7-of-7 from the free throw line while Marlon Cobb (Flossmoor, IL) grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds in the winning effort for the Stars.
On Tuesday, the Stars traveled to Maranatha Baptist and knocked off the Crusaders for the second time this season. Haiduc powered the Stars’ offense again with 24 points on 11-of-17 shooting from the field as the Stars racked up a season-high 80 points. Ivano Clay (Chicago, IL) and Derek Pedersen (South Elgin, IL) chipped in 14 and 11 points respectively for the Stars in the winning effort.
On Thursday, the Stars fell to Benedictine University, 61-54. The Stars managed to shoot just 35% from the field and 27% from behind the three-point line compared to the Eagles who shot 44% from the field and 40% from three.
Erin McMillan (Dolton, IL) led the Stars with 17 points, including nine points in the game’s final 55 seconds as he connected on 3-of-4 three-point field goal attempts in the game’s final minute.
The Stars now stand at 9-6 on the season with a huge game against defending LMC champion Edgewood College on Saturday at 4:15 p.m. at Dominican University.
