Men's Basketball falls in back-to-back games

The Dominican University men’s basketball team dropped back-to-back Lake Michigan Conference (LMC) games last week to fall to fourth place in the conference standings at 4-4 in LMC action and 9-8 overall.

On Saturday, the Stars fell to the LMC’s defending champion, the Edgewood College Eagles, 80-72. After leading the entire first half and ending the half at 39-38, the Stars surrendered the lead on the first possession of the second half. However, the Stars rallied and regained the lead, eventually leading the Eagles by nine points at 51-42. However, Edgewood slowly chipped away at the lead and took it for good with eight minutes remaining.

With 14 points, sophomore Mike Haiduc (Chicago, IL) led four Dominican players who scored in double-digits. Erin McMillan (Dolton, IL) and Binyamin Jones (Chicago, IL) each scored 13 points apiece while Ivano Clay (Chicago, IL) added 11 points in the losing effort.

Earlier in the week, the Stars fell to second-place Lakeland College, 64-50, despite a game-high 17-point performance by McMillan to go along with his 7 rebounds, 4 blocks and 3 assists. Haiduc also added 14 points for the Stars, who managed to shoot just 34.7% from the field and 26.7% from behind the three-point arc.

The Stars will look to right their course with a pair of home games this week against Wisconsin Lutheran College and Marian College.  The Stars have already beaten both teams at home.

“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
