Men’s Soccer Tops Nation
The Dominican University men’s soccer program, ranked 17th in the nation for NCAA Division III men’s soccer programs by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, boasts the top offense in the division with a 5.0 goals per game average.The Stars’ offense erupted for 14 goals against Concordia University (IL) in the season opener on September 1 and has not looked back, outscoring their opponents by 46 goals (52-6). The Stars’ outburst in the season opener is currently the most goals scored by a Division III men’s soccer team this season, through September 25.
The Stars’ David Niederholtmeyer also holds a Division III single-game high with five assists against Concordia, while freshman Matt Kochanowski is tied for the Division III single-game high with five goals also against Concordia.
Kochanowski and Niederholtmeyer also rank in the top twenty in the nation in goals per game and points per game. Kochanowski averages 1.45 goals per game through 11 games played, ranking him fifth in the nation, while his 3.27 points per game ranks him seventh right behind Niederholtmeyer’s 3.45 points per game.
Niederholtmeyer has averaged 1.27 goals per game and 1.00 assists per game, placing him 16th and third in the nation respectively.
The Stars will look to improve upon their 10-1-0 overall mark and spotless 4-0-0 record in Lake Michigan Conference play on Saturday, October 8 as they travel to Wisconsin Lutheran College for a 3:30 p.m. game.
