DU Presents Lecture on Women in Prison
Dominican University will present a lecture by author Renny Golden on “War on Families: Mothers in Prison and Their Children” on Tuesday, October 18 at 7:00 p.m. in Lewis Lounge in Lewis Hall, 7900 W. Division Street, River Forest.Over 70 percent of incarcerated women are mothers, primarily serving time for drug-related non-violent crimes. Renny Golden, author of War on Families: Mothers in Prison and the Children They Leave Behind will sign her newly released book and share the stories of women she interviewed for her book who navigated the labyrinth of the street and the state.
Golden is also author of Disposable Children: America’s Child Welfare System, a compilation of accounts from case workers, judges and children who have been caught in the welfare system, and was a professor of justice studies at Northeastern Illinois University for 25 years.
