DU Invites Applications for New Provost

Job Description

Dominican University invites inquiries, nominations and applications for the position of university provost. For full consideration, all materials must be received by October 31, 2005. The new provost is expected to be appointed and begin July 1, 2006.

Dominican University is a comprehensive, master’s level institution with a strong liberal arts and sciences tradition rooted in the Sinsinawa Dominican heritage. Dominican aspires to be a premier, Catholic, comprehensive teaching university with an enrollment of 4,000 students by 2012. Current enrollment is just over 3,200.

Founded in 1901, Dominican University offers 50 undergraduate academic programs through the Rosary College of Arts and Sciences and 15 graduate programs through the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, the School of Business, the School of Education, the Graduate School of Social Work, and the Institute for Adult Learning. In the 2006 issue of America’s Best Colleges, U.S. News & World Report again ranked Dominican University in the top tier of Midwest master’s level universities and as a “best value” for the eighth consecutive year.

The university, which is located just outside of metropolitan Chicago, has an operating budget of $49 million and an endowment of $17 million and is currently engaged in the renovation and construction of several campus buildings, including a new academic building.

The new provost will provide thoughtful and energetic academic leadership, working collaboratively with the deans to define new academic directions and to strengthen faculty scholarship and scholarly discourse among and between academic units. Candidates must demonstrate an understanding of and a commitment to the university’s Catholic mission.

Interested individuals should provide a letter describing their interest in and qualification for the position, a resume and the names and contact information of five references. This packet should be sent electronically via email (Microsoft Word attachments preferred) to Dominican’s consultants, Jean Dowdall and Jane Courson at DominicanProvost@wittkieffer.com. Additional information about this position is available on the university’s Web site at www.dom.edu. Documents that must be mailed should be sent to Witt/Kieffer at 2015 Spring Road, Suite 510, Oak Brook, IL 60523. Consultants can be reached at (630) 575-6131.

“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
