PAC Presents Little Shop of Horrors

Dominican University’s Performing Arts Center presents Little Shop of Horrors, one of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows in history, from Friday, November 18 through Sunday, November 20 in Lund Auditorium, 7900 W. Division Street, River Forest.

Based on the 1960 Roger Corman film starring a young Jack Nicholson, this affectionate, musical spoof of 1950s sci-fi movies has become a household name due the Oscar-nominated 1986 film version starring Rick Moranis. The story revolves around an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed carnivorous plant’s nefarious offer to bestow fame and fortune and love upon a down-and-out mild-mannered floral assistant in exchange for a steady stream of fresh blood. Things get out of hand as the plant’s appetite becomes insatiable.

Featuring a score by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, the team that revitalized Disney’s animation film division with The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast, this play is fun for the whole family. Krista Hansen, artistic director of theatre arts at Dominican University, directs a cast of student and professional actors.

For more information or to order tickets, contact the Dominican University box office at (708) 488-5000. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 8:00 p.m.; the Sunday performance begins at 3:00 p.m. General admission tickets are $15.

Founded in 1901, Dominican University is a comprehensive, coeducational Catholic institution offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Dominican offers 50 undergraduate academic programs through the Rosary College of Arts and Sciences and 15 graduate programs through the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, the School of Business, the School of Education, the Graduate School of Social Work, and the Institute for Adult Learning. In the 2006 issue of America’s Best Colleges, U.S. News & World Report again ranked Dominican University in the top tier of Midwest master’s level universities and as a “best value” for the eighth consecutive year.

“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
