Men’s Soccer Rolls Through Regular Season
In their first year as members of the Lake Michigan Conference (LMC), the Dominican University men’s soccer team rolled through the conference regular season with an unblemished 7-0-0 record, outscoring their opponents by a 25-2 margin.Last week, the Stars played their last two regular season conference games, emerging with victories over Lakeland College 2-0 and Marian College 5-1. The pair of victories earned the Stars their first LMC Championship.
On Saturday, the Stars traveled to Sheboygan, WI, to take on the Lakeland College Muskies, who were also unbeaten in conference play entering the contest. The Stars scored both their goals in the first half and established their pace with a 13-2 advantage in shots in the half.
Freshman Matt Kochanowski (Arlington Heights, IL) scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 33rd minute off an assist from Dave Niederholtmeyer (Washington, MO). Niederholtmeyer then added a goal of his own just ten minutes later. The goal was Niederholtmeyer’s team-leading 20th goal of the season in just 14 games.
Earlier in the week, the Stars knocked off Marian College 5-1 at home. Niederholtmeyer recorded a hat-trick in the first half before leaving the game with a sore knee. Kochanowski and Dario Bolanos (Wheeling, IL) added goals for Dominican in the winning effort.
The Stars now stand at 13-1-0 on the year with three regular season games remaining before the LMC tournament begins on Friday, October 28. On Saturday, October 22, Dominican will host University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh for a 1:00 p.m. match.
“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
