School of Business Hosts Lecture by William Daley

Dominican University’s School of Business, as part of its ongoing lectures series on business and ethics, will present former US Secretary of Commerce William M. Daley on Tuesday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m. in Lund Auditorium, 7900 W. Division Street, River Forest. Daley, who has had a storied career spanning government and politics, law, banking and corporate business, will present a lecture titled “Could You Look Your Neighbor in the Eye?”

The brother of Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley and son of former mayor Richard J. Daley, William Daley is chairman of the Midwest for J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. His career in politics began in 1976 when he served as his father’s liaison to Jimmy Carter’s presidential campaign. In 1980, he ran his brother Richard’s successful race for Cook County state’s attorney. He served as campaign chairman for Walter Mondale’s unsuccessful bid for president in 1984 before returning to the practice of law.

Daley entered the world of banking after his brother’s election as mayor of Chicago by taking the job of vice chairman, and later president, of Amalgamated Bank. He returned to politics in 1992, serving as chairman of the Clinton-Gore campaign in Illinois. As Special Counsel to President Clinton in 1993, Daley coordinated the successful campaign to pass the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and, in 2000, he organized the effort to instate Normal Trade Relations with China. He took over as chairman of Al Gore’s struggling and ultimately unsuccessful presidential campaign in 2000.

In this special program, Daley will discuss his efforts to make ethical decisions on a range of complicated business and political issues. For more information about this lecture, contact Dominican’s School of Business at (708) 524-6810.
