GSLIS Presents Annual McCusker Lecture

Dominican University’s Graduate School of Library and Information Science will present Mary Minow, co-author of The Library’s Legal Answer Book, in the annual McCusker Memorial Lecture on Thursday, October 27. Minow will deliver a lecture titled “Ghost Libraries: Keeping Libraries Away From Legal Demons” at 6:00 p.m. in the Martin Recital Hall of the Fine Arts Building, 7900 W. Division Street, River Forest.

Minow, a library law consultant with LibraryLaw.com, is the first recipient of the Zoia Horn Intellectual Freedom Award, given by the California Library Association in 2004. She has spoken to library groups across the country about copyright, First Amendment and privacy issues as well as Internet access and the USA Patriot Act.

A consultant for the Library of Congress and the California State Library, Minow worked in public libraries for 10 years before going to law school. She has been a library commissioner and is past president of the California Association of Library Trustees and Commissioners, where she serves as a policy analyst.

Minow is the daughter of Newton Minow, former chairman of the Federal Communications Commission under President Kennedy.

This lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, please call the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at (708) 524-6850.
