Dominican University Presents Nanci Griffith

Dominican University kicks off its 2005-2006 performing arts season with a concert by Grammy Award-winning singer/ songwriter, author and political activist Nanci Griffith on Saturday, September 10 at 8:00 p.m. in the Lund Auditorium, 7900 W. Division Street, River Forest. Griffith will be backed by her band The Blue Moon Orchestra.

Dubbed the “Queen of Folkabilly” by Rolling Stone magazine, Griffith’s musical journey has taken her from the Hole in the Wall bar in Austin, TX to Carnegie Hall, the Grand Ole Opry and London’s Royal Albert Hall. Recipient of a Grammy Award for her 1993 album Other Voices, Other Rooms, Griffith has recorded with an eclectic group of musicians including Lyle Lovett, Mark Knopfler, Larry Mullen Jr. and Adam Clayton of U2, and Irish folk legends The Chieftains. She is also the author of Nanci Griffith’s Other Voices: A Personal History of Folk Music, a companion to her Other Voices, Other Rooms album and its 1998 sequel, Other Voices, Too.

In addition to her music, Griffith has become well known for her work with the Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation (VVAF) as well as the Campaign for a Landmine Free World. In January 2000, Griffith traveled to Vietnam and Cambodia with the VVAF and visited Kosova and Angola in 2001 with the Campaign for a Landmine Free World, an organization dedicated to locating and removing existing landmines and rehabilitating the victims of landmines.
