Dominican Student Receives McGowan Scholarship

Mitral Shah, a resident of Schiller Park, IL, has been selected as the William G. McGowan Scholar in Dominican University’s School of Business for the 2005 – 2006 academic year. Shah, who received a bachelor’s degree in business administration at Dominican University, is currently working on his MBA at the university.

Shah was selected for this prestigious scholarship from a number of highly qualified applicants. Faculty recommendations written on his behalf emphasized the quality of his academic work as well as his professionalism and strong interpersonal skills. He is also involved in extracurricular activities such as the Tax Assistance Program, a project that provides free tax services to Chicago’s working poor, and Sigma Iota Epsilon, the Business Management Honor Society at Dominican University. Shah has also held a campus job in media services at Dominican, served as a research assistant and an accounting tutor and completed a professional internship as an undergraduate.

The scholarship will allow Shah to pursue his graduate studies on a full-time basis at Dominican. The McGowan Scholars Program, administered by the William G. McGowan Charitable Fund, was named in honor of the contributions made by the founder and chairman of MCI Communications Corporation to the fields of business, telecommunications and entrepreneurship.

Dominican University’s School of Business offers graduate programs in business administration (MBA), accounting, computer information systems, management information systems and organization management.

In the 2005 issue of America’s Best Colleges, U. S. News & World Report ranked Dominican in the top tier of Midwest master’s level universities and as a best value for the seventh consecutive year.

“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
