DU Hosts River Forest 125th Anniversary Art Show
Dominican University will host an exhibition of artwork by River Forest artists in honor of the Village’s 125th anniversary. The show, which will be held in the university’s O’Connor Art Gallery, will open during a 125th Gala Benefit on Friday, June 17 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and will continue through Saturday, July 16.Cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and entertainment by Dr. Douglas Anderson and Joel and Susan Raney will be provided during the Gala Benefit. Also lending their talents to the evening will be musicians and dancers from the Concordia Festival Chorus, the Academy of Movement and Music’s Momenta Dance Group, Oak Park and River Forest High School’s jazz ensemble, string quartet and woodwinds ensemble, and the Sheila Tully Irish Step Dancers. In addition, artwork by students from Oak Park River Forest High School, Fenwick High School and Trinity High School will be on display during the evening of the Gala.
Tickets for the Gala Benefit are $125 per person and may be purchased by calling (708) 366-0582. Proceeds will benefit the restoration of the Cummings Memorial.
Artwork in a variety of media by over 30 River Forest artists will be on display in the university’s gallery through July 16. Included in the show will work by Thomas Amato, Jan Anderson, Lee Balgemann, Linda Balgemann, Kathleen Brooks, Fred Bryant and Rachel Burgess.
Also included in the show will be work by Jackie Dimetros, Bernadette Freeman, Rachel Grossman, John Hagensick, Ann Hanson, Wendy Hartz, Barry Hehemann, Damian Kozbur, Marcy Kubat, Leslye Madden, Kate McDonnell, Sally McPartlin, Bobbie Meier, Laura Myntti, Sharon Nummer, Frank Paluch, Alexander Phillips, Gordon Powell, Susan Sensemann, Judy Steed, Robert Steed, Mary Lou Stewart, Tom Tully, Leslie Ann Tuzi, Kathleen Waterloo, Joseph Wendt, Kate Wester and the late Philip White.
The O’Connor Art Gallery is located on the fourth floor of Lewis Hall at Dominican University, 7900 W. Division Street, River Forest. The gallery will be open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during the exhibition. The Gala 125 Benefit and the art exhibition are just two of several events organized by an ad hoc committee established by the Village of River Forest to celebrate the Village’s 125th anniversary. Throughout the summer and early fall the committee is planning activities including a display at the public library of essays and quilts by students from St. Luke’s Elementary School and District 90 schools, an ice cream social and outdoor movie at Priory Park on August 5, and a wine tasting at the River Forest Community Center on September 24.
