Siena Center Presents Haunted by God

Dominican University’s Siena Center, in collaboration with the Peace and Justice Committee of St. Luke’s Parish in River Forest, presents Haunted by God, a one-woman play about Catholic social activist Dorothy Day on Wednesday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Eloise Martin Recital Hall, 7900 W. Division Street, River Forest.

Dorothy Day co-founded the Catholic Social Worker movement in 1933 and is known as the “ mother of the peace movement” in the United Stares and has influenced generations of writers, thinkers and activists including Daniel Barrigan and Michael Harrington.

Lisa Wagner performs the play that she co-authored with Paul Amandes and Robert McClory. This acclaimed production has toured throughout the United States, Europe and Africa.

In a review in the Chicago Reader, Maura Troester wrote, “It’s not easy to capture the spirit of a woman nominated for sainthood, but Wagner does it with charm, wit and tremendous faith in the power of her words.” And, in New City, Jack Helbig proclaimed Haunted by God “a charming and compelling warts-and-all portrait” adding that Wagner plays “with equal ease Day as a young Greenwich bohemian, a middle-aged radical and an elderly, wise leader.”

Proceeds from this performance will benefit the Siena Center and PADS, a community effort to serve the homeless. Tickets for this performance are $20 for adults and $10 for students. For more information, please call the Siena Center at (708) 714-9110.

“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
