Dominican Stars pick-up three wins
The Dominican University baseball program picked up three wins over Lake Michigan Conference (LMC) opponents last week to improve its record to 6-3.
On Saturday, the Stars swept a doubleheader from the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders. The Stars jumped to a nine-run lead in the bottom half of the first inning as the Stars brought 14 hitters to the plate in the inning.
Zach Schrader picked up the win with a complete game, shutout for the Stars as the Stars cruised to a 13-0 victory. Schrader faced just 18 batters in five innings, allowing just three hits and no walks while striking out two.
The Stars fell behind 4-2 in game two before rallying to score five runs in the fifth inning to take a 7-4 lead en route to the 10-4 win.
Junior Mark Higgins led the Stars’ offensive attack with a 3-for-4 game at the plate with a double and an RBI.
The Stars’ bullpen did not allow a run over the final 3.2 innings to lift the Stars to victory. Brett Dvorak picked up his first win of the season, going 2.2 innings and not allowing a run in his first appearance as a reliever this year for the Stars.
On Tuesday, the Stars knocked off the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors 4-2. Mike Palermo picked up the win for the Stars as he went the distance, scattering nine hits and one walk over nine innings while striking out five.
