Dominican Stars sweep doubleheader

The Dominican University softball team swept a doubleheader from Maranatha Baptist Bible College on Saturday.

The Stars grabbed the win in game one 9-0.   Jennifer Gianos picked up the complete game shutout, allowing just two hits and no walks in five innings of work on the mound.

Offensively, Cristina Donofrio and Tina Gustafson set the table for the Stars’ offense as the pair reached base a total of six times and scored five runs as the team’s number one- and two-hitters.

The Stars continued to roll in game two, cruising to a 13-1 victory.   Donofrio remained perfect on the day at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and scored two more runs, while Becky Knotek went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI.

Lisa Pauletto picked up the win for the Stars, allowing just one earned run on five hits and one walk in five innings of work.

The Stars now stand at 2-6 on the season and will host Concordia University (WI) on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. and then Lakeland College on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
