Valiant Effort by Lounds Cannot Lift Stars
Dominican University’s Melissa Lounds scored a total of 32 first- half points in a pair of Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference (NIIC) losses for the Stars last week.On Tuesday, Lounds poured in 21 points in the game’s first 20 minutes on a perfect seven-for-seven shooting performance from the field, including a pair of three-point field goals, as the Stars fell behind the Benedictine University Eagles 39-36 through the first half.
The Eagles then kept Lounds in check as she managed just three points over the game’s final 20 minutes as the Stars fell to the Eagles 79-64, despite a 14-point effort by Nicole Zuhlke in the second half.
Lounds followed her season-high 24-point effort at Benedictine with a 19-point effort at Eureka College as the Stars fell to the Red Devils 71-61.
The pair of losses dropped the Stars’ overall record to 2-19 and 1-7 in the NIIC with just four games remaining in the regular season.
