Dominican Stars Snap Losing Skid

The Dominican University women’s basketball program snapped a seven-game losing streak on Saturday with a 70-64 victory over Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference (NIIC) foe Clarke College.

The Stars rallied behind a tremendous effort from senior Melissa Lounds. Lounds poured in a season-high 30 points on 9-for-13 shooting from the field and a 12-for-15 performance from the foul line. Lounds also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds to propel the Stars to victory.

Lounds was one of four Stars players to score in double-digits on Saturday. Wioleta Koziol (14), Jamie Baird (11) and Nicole Zuhlke (10) all double-figures with Zuhlke adding 10 assists for her first double-double effort of the season.

Earlier in the week the Stars fell to Aurora University 67-55 at home. Once again Lounds paced the Stars’ offense with 17 points, followed by Baird with 16 points while Zuhlke chipped in 13 points in the losing effort.

The split pushed the Stars’ overall record to 3-20 and 2-8 in the NIIC with just two regular season games remaining. On Thursday, the Stars will play host to neighborhood and conference rival Concordia University and then close the regular season at home against Rockford College on Saturday, February 19.

“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
