Dominican Stars Fall in NIIC Action
The Dominican University men’s basketball program is struggling to break a season-long nine-game losing streak after suffering back-to-back Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference (NIIC) defeats last week.On Saturday, the Stars traveled to Dubuque, IA, to take on the Clarke College Crusaders. The Crusaders handed the Stars a 93-67 loss to sweep the season series. The Stars trailed from start to finish as the Crusaders connected on a three-point field goal in the game’s opening possession.
Freshman Bernie Talian led three Stars scorers in double-figures with 15 points off the bench. Talian went 6-for-10 from the field with a pair of three-pointers in 19 minutes of action. Sophomores Binyamin Jones and Derek Pedersen added 11 points apiece for the Stars in the losing effort.
Earlier in the week, the Stars hosted Aurora University and fell to the Spartans 79-53. Pedersen paced the Stars offense with 17 points in 16 minutes on 6-for-11 shooting from the field, including a 5-for-7 effort from behind the three-point line. Senior Ocie Peet added 13 points and seven rebounds in the loss for the Stars.
The pair of losses dropped the Stars to 7-16 overall and 2-8 in the NIIC with just two games remaining in the regular season.
