Haiduc has breakout week

The Dominican University Stars suffered back-to-back losses last week but can find a silver lining in the play of freshman Mike Haiduc, who set career-highs in points in both games.

Haiduc began the week with a double-double effort in an 84-45 loss at Rockford College on Wednesday. Haiduc scored a team-high 16 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and recorded three blocks in the losing effort.

Haiduc then responded with a 22-point effort in a 78-72 loss to the Marian College Sabres on Saturday. Haiduc went 8-for-15 from the field and converted six of seven free-throw attempts.

In the loss to the Sabres, Haiduc was one of four Stars players to score in double figures. Sophomore Binyamin Jones chipped in 17 points while freshman Ivano Clay and Ronald Moore added 12 points apiece.

The pair of losses dropped the Stars to 7-12 overall and 2-4 in the Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference.
