Best start in recent history

The Dominican University women's tennis team is off to its best start in the last four years with a 5-1 record after posting victories over Eureka College, Concordia University of Wisconsin, Marian College and Lakeland College last week.

The Stars cruised to a 9-0 victory over Eureka College on Tuesday, failing to surrender even a single set to the Red Devils.  The Stars then traveled to Wisconsin for a trio of matches over the weekend.  On Friday, the Stars knocked off the Falcons, 6-3, in their closest match of the week.  The Stars then defeated Lakeland College, 8-1, Saturday morning before closing out the perfect week with a clean sweep, 9-0, of Marian College.

Senior Sarah Schoo along with sophomore Laura Grabowski and freshmen Michelle Albrecht and Eileen Shanahan each posted an unblemished mark in singles competition during the week, while the duo of junior Sarah Plovanich and freshman Molly Nolan recorded four victories in doubles competition.

Schoo is a perfect 6-0 in singles play, winning one match in the number three slot and five in the number four position. Teaming with Shanahan in doubles play, the duo is an impressive 4-2 in number two doubles play.

Grabowski and Albrecht are 4-2 as a team in the number one doubles position while each is 5-1 in singles competition with Grabowski competing as the team's number one and Albrecht number two.

The Stars return to action on Tuesday, September 14, with a 3:00 p.m. match at Rockford College.
