Dominican Stars Set to Open Conference Play
The Dominican University women’s soccer team will open up the Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference (NIIC) season against defending champion Aurora University on Wednesday, September 29, at Aurora at 4:00 p.m. The Stars will enter the conference with a 4-4-0 overall record after splitting a pair of games last week.On Wednesday, the Stars fell to Lake Forest College 5-1. The Stars battled the Foresters for most of the game, trailing 2-1 at the half thanks to Renee Vai’s team-leading tenth goal of the season. However, Lake Forest scored three unanswered goals in the second half to preserve the victory.
The Stars then hosted the Ripon College Red Hawks on Saturday, escaping with a 2-0 victory. Sophomore Jaime Mills scored the game-winning goal for the Stars in the game’s 15th minute. The Stars then opened up some breathing room on a goal by Vai just seconds into the second half.
After the conference opener on Wednesday, the Stars will then return home to host Edgewood College on Saturday, October 2, for a 3:30 p.m. game.
