DU’s Elizondo Named NIIC Player of the Week
Dominican University’s Erik Elizondo (Cicero, IL/Morton East) was named the Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference (NIIC) Player of the Week for the week ending on September 26.On Saturday, September 25, Elizondo tied a Dominican University record that was set in 1998 as he scored six goals in a game against Ripon College. Elizondo scored the first goal of the game in the sixth minute to give the Stars a 1-0 advantage. After a goal by teammate Steve Lodes in the 32nd minute, Elizondo responded with three more goals over a 17-minute stretch. Elizondo then responded to the Red Hawks’ lone goal with two more goals in the game’s final ten minutes as the Stars captured their seventh victory of the season 7-1.
Earlier in the week Elizondo lifted the Stars to a 3-1 victory over Illinois Wesleyan University on the road. On the week, he recorded eight goals and one assist.
To date, Elizondo is the team-leader in points (33), goals (13), assists (7) and game-winning goals (3).
