Chamber Music Series With Ernesto Bitetti
The Dominican University Chamber Music Series begins its 2004-2005 season with an all-Latin program of classical guitar music by award-winning soloist Ernesto Bitetti on Saturday, September 18, 2004 at 8:00 p.m. The concert will take place in the Lund Auditorium, 7900 West Division Street, River Forest, Illinois. The concert, presented in conjunction with the Instituto Cervantes de Chicago, will feature music from Argentina, Brazil, Spain and Tunisia. Among the works on the evening’s program: a prelude by Heitor Villa-Lobos, miniatures by Isaac Albéniz, and tangos by Astor Piazzolla. Also scheduled is a sonata by José Buenganu, a piece written for and dedicated to Bitetti. Bitetti will also perform works by F. Moreno Torroba and Roland Dyens.
Ernesto Bitetti was born in Rosario, Argentina and has lived in Madrid since 1968. As an accompanist, he is much in demand and has recorded with José Cura and Placido Domingo. He has performed as soloist with many acclaimed chamber and symphony orchestras including Solisti Italiani, Camerata Bern and the London Symphony Orchestra. His 1983 television special, Bitetti from the Aranjuez Palace, won the International Television Prize in Prague. His recordings have twice received the Records National Prize in Spain (in 1979 and 1985). In 1989, Bitetti created and became chair of the guitar program at Indiana University’s prestigious School of Music.
