DU Stars Hope Young Talent Continues to Flourish

The Dominican University women’s tennis program will look to build off of the success of its young talent from 2003, when the Stars finished fourth in the Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference (NIIC) with a roster that consisted of three freshman and only one senior.

The Stars will look to sophomore Laura Grabowski to again anchor the team as she did a year ago at the number 1 singles and doubles positions. Grabowski, the conference runner-up at the NIIC tournament at number 1 singles, racked up wins in nine singles matches and seven doubles matches to lead the Stars in victories in 2003.

In total the Stars’ freshmen racked up 21 of the team’s 31 wins in singles competition and meshed well with the rest of the team in doubles play, especially with junior co-captain Sarah Schoo, who provided leadership to a young team.

"The strong leadership and play from last year’s young team make me optimistic about our future,” said head coach Bob Greenwald, “even beyond this season. At the same time this year’s freshmen class will be asked to make major contributions to our program as well."

“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
