Look and Cook Series Presents Dinner at Dominican
Dominican University’s Department of Nutrition Sciences continues its popular Look and Cook program this fall with Dinner at Dominican, a workshop series to be held on Thursday evenings beginning October 7. Participants will be invited to sit at a demonstration counter and watch as a chef prepares a variety of meal options. Tasting during the demonstrations will be highly encouraged and recipes will be shared.All classes will be held in Dominican’s cooking laboratory in Room 122 of the Science Building, 7900 W. Division Street, River Forest. Classes are limited to eight participants and cost $40 unless otherwise noted.
The series kicks off on Thursday, October 7 with After-Work Happy Hour. Participants will learn how to prepare appetizers and simple first courses such as chicken satay with peanut sauce, shrimp potstickers, sushi, California maki and spring rolls.
Dinner in Spain will be held on Thursday, October 14. Participants will learn how to prepare Spanish tortillas, paella and flan.
Knife Skills will be offered on Thursday, October 21. During this workshop, participants will learn basic but important knife skills and will come home with the complete ingredients for making vegetable soup. This workshop costs $50.
An Indonesian Dinner will be the focus of the Thursday, October 28 workshop. On the menu will be coconut crab soup, chicken tandoori with basmati rice, raiti, naan and mango lassi.
It’s Gonna Get Cold will be offered on Thursday, November 5. Participants will learn how to prepare for winter with soups and stocks, including Cuban black bean, clam chowder and tom yum, a hot and sour Thai soup.
Basic Chocolate Skills, to be offered on Thursday, November 12, will give participants information on tempering chocolate and tips on creating delicious truffles, chocolate-dipped leaves and chocolate bags. This workshop costs $50.
And if one chocolate workshop isn’t enough to quell your craving, Advanced Chocolate Skills will be held on Thursday, November 19. Participants will learn advanced techniques for decorating and enjoying chocolate.
