DU Book Club Discusses A Severed Head
Dominican University’s Book Club will meet on Thursday, February 19 to discuss Iris Murdoch’s novel, A Severed Head. The book club meets at 7:00 p.m. in Room 002 of the Rebecca Crown Library on the main campus, 7900 W. Division Street, River Forest.A Severed Head features the character Martin Lynch-Gibbon, a man who believes that it is possible to have a gorgeous wife and a charming lover at the same time. Martin is forced to reexamine his life when his wife, Antonia, suddenly leaves him for her psychoanalyst. While the plotline’s main focus is a marriage in crisis, plenty of twists and surprises abound to keep the reader fascinated.
A Severed Head was published in 1961 and soon was adapted into a play and later a movie, starring Lee Remick, Richard Attenborough and Ian Holm.
Murdoch was a philosopher and teacher, besides being an author of many significant works of the 21st century such as, The Bell and The Black Prince. Murdoch’s life was portrayed in the 2001 movie, Iris.
