DU Tackles The Passion of the Christ
You’ve seen the movie, now you want to talk about it. You haven’t seen the movie, and still you
want to talk about it. Dominican University invites the public to a panel discussion on the
recently released movie
The Passion of the Christ on Wednesday, March 10 at 7:00 p.m. in the Lund Auditorium, 7900
W. Division Street, River Forest.
The Passion of the Christ is a cultural and religious phenomenon that is touching many people
in powerful and divergent ways. Dominican University hopes to foster dialogue and learning at the
intersection of popular culture, religion and higher education by offering a public conversation on
this controversial film.
The panel discussion, which is sponsored by the university’s Rosary College of Arts and
Sciences, will allow ample time for conversation with the audience.
Panelists include Dr. Jeffrey Carlson, professor of theology and dean of the Rosary College
of Arts and Sciences, who will respond to the film in light of the role of anti-Judaism in
Christian history and the Catholic Church’s more recent calls for repentance and healing; and Dr.
Clodagh Weldon, assistant professor of theology, who will consider the movie’s fidelity to
interpretations of the Biblical texts.
In addition, Dr. Patricia Erens, a film scholar and adjunct professor of communications, will
address the way film influences audience responses through the use of various cinematic techniques.
She will also discuss how the film may affect the relationship between Christians and Jews,
especially in America.
For more information on this free panel discussion, please contact Jessica Mackinnon,
director of public relations and advertising, at (708) 524-6289 or at

“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
