ContactDU Presents Ann Hampton Callaway & Liz Callaway
Dominican University’s Center Stage proudly presents Sibling Revelry, a musical revue featuring vocalists Ann Hampton Callaway and Liz Callaway—stars of cabaret, film and theater, for one performance on Saturday, February 7, 2004 at 8:00 p.m. The concert will take place in the Lund Auditorium, 7900 West Division Street, River Forest, Illinois. For tickets and information, call (708) 524-6942.
The Callaway sisters originally performed Sibling Revelry at Rainbow and Stars, a famous New York nightspot, to glowing reviews. It earned a MAC award from the Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs and a Bistro Award from Backstage Magazine. The sisters soon toured the show to Los Angeles, Cannes, and the Donmar Warehouse in London.
Sibling Revelry includes solos by each performer, duets and a shared medley of songs about sibling-hood. The singers explore the Great American Songbook with compositions by George Gershwin, Frank Loesser, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, Stephen Schwartz, Stephen Sondheim, Jule Styne and others. Throughout the show, the Callaways celebrate the similarities and differences between two Chicago-born sisters who have both grown to international success as entertainers. Liz performs primarily in musicals and films, while Ann is a singer/songwriter.
The Callaways were raised in a show-business household; their father is highly regarded news correspondent John Callaway, and their mother, Shirley, is a prominent Broadway vocal coach. Liz found fame on Broadway, appearing in Merrily We Roll Along, Miss Saigon, and Cats. She received a Tony Award nomination for her performance in Baby. She has given voice to many characters in animated films, from the title role in Anastasia to Princess Jasmine in Disney’s Aladdin and the King of Thieves and The Return of Jafar. Liz received an Emmy Award for hosting Ready To Go, a live children’s television program.
In contrast, Ann is best known for her jazzy compositions, ranging from the theme to The Nanny television show to several songs written at the request of Barbra Streisand. She has performed with Wynton Marsalis, the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, the Boston Pops, and on her own daily satellite radio show. Ann earned a Tony Award nomination for her performance as a big-band vocalist in Swing!, her Broadway debut. Sibling Revelry allows the sisters to explore both their individual successes and family bonds in an entertaining framework.
