Stars Knock Off Cougars
The Dominican University Stars began the week against conference-rival Concordia University on
Monday night and knocked off the Cougars, 71 – 62, for the second time in Northern Illinois-Iowa
Conference (NIIC) action.
Eric Dunn (Chicago, IL/Curie) and
Jason Polakowski (Elmwood Park, IL/Elmwood Park) poured in 18 points apiece while
Steve Preston (Johnsburg, IL/Johnsburg) chipped in 16 points of his own in the
winning effort. Dunn added eight rebounds and six assists in 39 minutes of action for the Stars.
The Stars continued play in the NIIC on Saturday as they traveled to Rockford College.
However, the Stars fell to the Regents 83-60. The Stars could not recover from a 20-point deficit
(27-7) they had dug themselves in within the game’s first eight minutes.
Freshman
Derek Pedersen (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles North) poured in a career-high 26
points to lead Dominican. Pedersen shot an impressive 11-for-16 from the field, including going
2-for-4 from the three-point line.
The split pushed the Stars record to 2-4 in the NIIC and 4-15 overall. They will take to the
courts again on Wednesday as they host NIIC-opponent Eureka College for a 7:30 p.m. game.
“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
