The production will take place on Friday, February 27 and Saturday, February 28 at 8:00 p.m., and Sunday, February 29 at 3:00 p.m. in the Martin Recital Hall, 7900 West Division Street, River Forest, Illinois. For tickets and information, call (708) 524-6942.Crimes of the Heart takes place in Hazlehurst, Mississippi where each of the Magrath sisters faces a significant turning point. The youngest sister, Babe, is arrested for shooting her husband. The middle sister, Meg, returns home after a disastrous attempt to launch a singing career. And the eldest, Lenny, faces her 30th birthday fearing she’ll become an old maid. Over two eventful days, the sisters face the circumstances that have led them astray and rediscover the bonds of sisterhood that offer them strength for the future.
The play won the 1981 Pulitzer Prize and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for best American play. Sissy Spacek, Jessica Lange and Diane Keaton portrayed the three sisters for the Academy Award-nominated movie adaptation in 1986.
Sarah Wiggin will direct Crimes of the Heart for Dominican University. She is an actor and director currently residing in Washington, DC. Her popular production of Steve Martin’s Picasso at the Lapin Agile was recently honored in the “Top Ten: Year on Stage” list of Baltimore’s City Paper, which called the staging “slick” and “witty.”
For more information, contact the Center Stage Box Office at (708) 524-6942. General admission tickets range are $15.
