Cook scores 1,000th career point
Dominican University’s
Kristin Cook (Chicago, IL/Resurrection) scored her 1,000th career point in a 68-62
loss against Marian College on Saturday, December 13.
Cook entered the game just three points shy of the milestone. After a lay-up pulled the Stars
to within two with 6:17 remaining in the first half, Cook was then fouled on a three-point attempt
just 30 seconds later and stepped to the line with her Stars down three. Cook converted all three
free-throws to knot the game at 21-21 and score her 1,000th career point. Cook went on to score 11
points and logged 8 steals in the losing effort.
Melissa Lounds (Streamwood, IL/Streamwood) led the Stars’ offense with 17 points
on 7-for-15 shooting from the field.
Earlier in the week, the Stars dropped a non-conference match-up to the Milwaukee School of
Engineering (M.S.O.E.) Raiders 73-52. Freshman forward
Jamie Baird (Bartlett, IL/Bartlett) paced the Stars offense with 16 points, while
Cook chipped in 12 points, 7 rebounds and 6 steals in the losing effort.
The pair of losses dropped the Stars to 2-6 on the year. Dominican returns to action on
December 21 at the Adidas D-3 Desert Shoot Out in Las Vegas. The Stars open the tournament against
SUNY IT and will then take on either Manchester College or Edgewood College on December 22.
“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
