DU Presents Ward Davenny: Works On Paper

Dominican University’s O’Connor Art Gallery presents an opening reception on Sunday, November 16 of Ward Davenny: Works on Paper, an exhibit of large-scale multi-media landscapes. The reception will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the gallery, located on the fourth floor of Lewis Hall on the main campus, 7900 W. Division Street, River Forest.

Davenny, chair of the department of art and art history at Dickinson College (PA), incorporates photography and drawing in his landscapes. Much of his subject matter involves the violence of natural phenomena such as tornados, thunderstorms and lightning. Davenny has a master of fine arts degree from Yale University and a bachelor of fine arts degree from San Francisco Art Institute.

His work is included in the permanent collections of the British Museum in London, the Fogg Museum in Cambridge, MA, the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the Contemporary Museum of Art in Honolulu, HI and the McNay Art Institute in San Antonio, TX. He is represented by the Mary Ryan Gallery in New York, NY.

The exhibit continues through December 19. The O’Connor Art Gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Call (708) 524-6491 for information.

“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
