Stars Close Regular Season on Winning Note

Dominican University received word late Sunday night that it was selected as a host site for the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Tournament. In the opening round the Stars will host Fontbonne University at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12.

Wednesday’s contest marks the second consecutive year that Dominican University will participate in the NCAA Division III National Tournament and the first-ever national athletic competition on the Dominican campus.

Dominican closed out the regular season on a winning-note on Thursday with a 4-0 shutout victory at North Central College. Erik Elizondo (Cicero, IL/Morton East), Steve Lodes (St. Louis, MO/Rosary), Felipe Samaniego (River Grove, IL/James Williams) and Dan Eagan (Florissant, MO/Desmet Jesuit) each netted one goal apiece to lift the Stars to victory.

Samaniego scored the game-winner in the game’s eighth minute and junior goalkeeper Jonathan Maendel (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) preserved the win, recording his sixth straight shutout.
