Center Stage Presents ¡Lorca!
Dominican University’s Center Stage presents, in celebration of Latino Heritage Month, the
Aguijon Theatre production of
¡Lorca! on Saturday, September 27 at 8:00 p.m. The production will be held in the Eloise
Martin Recital Hall on the Main Campus, 7900 W. Division Street, River Forest.
¡Lorca! recreates through live music, dance and dramatized readings the poetry and
theatrical work of revered Spanish writer Federico Garcia Lorca. Poems from Lorca’s
Libro de Poemas and Divan del Tamarit will come alive on stage through Aguijon Theatre’s
unique artistry. Readings will be primarily in Spanish.
Born near the city of Granada, Spain, Lorca studied music as a child and began writing poems
in his late teens. He studied philosophy and law at the University of Granada but soon abandoned
his legal studies for literature, art and the theatre. At the University of Madrid, he organized
theatrical performances and became associated with the Generacion del 27, a group of artists
including Salvador Dali, the filmmaker Luis Bunuel and the poet Rafael Alberti. Lorca, an early
casualty of the Spanish Civil War, was shot by Franco’s Nationalists in 1936. His murder brought
sudden international fame and martyrdom. He is considered today as one of the greatest poets and
dramatists of the 20TH Century.
Tickets for this special performance are $15. Contact the Center Stage box office at (708)
524-6942.
Dominican University will serve as a host of Chicago’s Latino Film Festival on April 20 and
