Local Student Awarded Top DU Scholarship
Christine Berry of Burbank, IL was recently awarded the prestigious Presidential Scholarship
from Dominican University. Berry is a graduate of Queen of Peace High School and will begin studies
at Dominican this fall.
The Presidential Scholarship is an invitational full-tuition scholarship for high school
seniors who have applied and been admitted to Dominican. Students who rank in the top 10 percent of
their class with an ACT composite score of 26 or higher and a grade point average of 3.5 or better
are invited to participate in a scholarship competition held in February. Scholarship winners are
selected based on interviews with Dominican faculty, academic record, a writing sample and
extracurricular and/or service activities.
“We are proud and excited to welcome Christine to Dominican University,” said Hildegard
Schmidt, dean of admissions and financial aid. “She will be a great asset to our freshman class.”
Founded in 1901, Dominican University is a comprehensive, coeducational Catholic institution
offering bachelor’’s and master’’s degrees. Dominican offers 51 undergraduate academic programs in
the Rosary College of Arts and Sciences and 18 graduate programs in four graduate schools through
the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, the Graduate School of Business and
Information Systems, the School of Education and the Graduate School of Social Work. In the 2003
issue of
America’’s Best Colleges, U.S. News & World Report ranked Dominican University in the
top tier of Midwest master’’s level universities and as a best value for the fifth consecutive
year.
“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
