The Undergraduate Research Assistantship Program (URAP) is another URSCI initiative. URSCI funds
four to six undergraduate research assistantships per semester.
Students assist full-time tenured or tenure-track undergraduate faculty with the faculty
member’s own scholarship. The faculty member identifies a specific student, then submits an
application describing the proposed scholarship and the qualifications of the student
assistant.
This program is intended to provide students a substantive intellectual experience.
Assistants can help in areas such as:
- Library research
- Data collection
- Data analysis
- Manuscript preparation
Students receive $10 per hour for up to 150 hours ($1,500) during a 15-week semester. In a
recent example, a junior neuroscience student helped her professor examine the effect of the
developmental environment on sensory processing in sea slugs.
All full-time undergraduate students who have attained at least sophomore status and have a
minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 are eligible.
