The Dominican University
School of Education offers a rich variety
of programs for undergraduates. Students earn a teaching certificate in addition to their degree in
a liberal arts discipline like mathematics. This winning combination means new graduates are
eligible to start in the classroom right away.
All Dominican courses and programs meet the teacher certification requirements of the
Illinois State Board of Education. The courses are carefully developed to include an optimal blend
of subject-area content, educational theory and hands-on skill development.
About half of all Dominican’s mathematics majors choose to complete an education
certification. Many schools appreciate the subject matter expertise mathematics majors bring to the
classroom. This is particularly true at the elementary level, where mathematics expertise is less
common.
