Mathematics
Mathematics is essential in almost every area of modern life. This highly logical, structured discipline is crucial in understanding:
  • Computers—designing, building and using them
  • Business, including insurance and the stock markets
  • Economics, including the banking system
  • Natural sciences like biology and chemistry
  • Social sciences like psychology and sociology
Studying mathematics also provides excellent preparation for becoming an elementary or secondary school teacher
The Mathematics Department at Dominican University prepares students to pursue careers in these and other fields. The department offers two majors: mathematics or mathematics and computer science.
Students who participate in Dominican’s engineering program, a joint program with the Illinois Institute of Technology, complete the mathematics portion of their curriculum in Dominican's Mathematics Department.

Students can also minor in mathematics.
