Mathematics is essential in almost every area of modern life. This highly logical, structured
discipline is crucial in understanding:
- Computers—designing, building and using them
- Business, including insurance and the stock markets
- Economics, including the banking system
- Natural sciences like biology and chemistry
- Social sciences like psychology and sociology
The Mathematics Department at Dominican University prepares students to pursue careers in these and
other fields. The department offers two majors:
mathematics or
mathematics and
computer science.
Students who participate in Dominican’s engineering program, a joint program with the Illinois Institute of Technology, complete the mathematics portion of their curriculum in Dominican's Mathematics Department.
Students can also minor in mathematics.
