This major is extremely useful for students who plan careers in medicine, the allied health sciences or biochemical or pharmaceutical research.
In addition to one year of calculus, students take seven courses in biology and seven courses in chemistry to complete the major. Faculty members in each discipline will provide guidance on which courses each student should take.
The following courses are required:
- General Chemistry (two semesters)
- Organic Chemistry (two semesters)
- Three advanced chemistry electives, preferably Physical Chemistry (two semesters) and Biochemistry
- Calculus (two semesters)
- Physics (two semesters)
- Seven courses in biology, five of which must include laboratory components
