At Dominican, apparel students take the school mission of creating a more just and humane world seriously.
Ethics may not be the first thing one thinks about when fashion comes to mind, but ethical concerns loom increasingly large within the industry.
Because of Dominican’s liberal arts curriculum, apparel students are able to study, discuss and challenge some of fashion’s important ethical issues throughout their four years, including:
- Fair labor policies and practices
- Body image
- Gender roles
- The role of animal products like fur
- Environmental concerns associated with dyes and other substances
Study and discussion today, perhaps real change to come in the near future: that’s the promise of a liberal arts education.
