Fashion Shows

When I was sewing and selling ‘pillow people’ in grammar school, I never imagined that 11 years later I would be presenting my collection at a big fashion show at a university.” – Lydia Wawrzyniak ’10 Double Major – Apparel Design & Apparel Merchandising

The highlight of every academic year for the Apparel Department is its annual fashion show. Held each April, the show includes the design work of all apparel students from that year’s courses.

In particular, the fashion show highlights the year’s Senior Collections. Each graduating senior apparel design major is required to design, construct and display a thematically linked collection of at least three garments.

Working together, all senior apparel students are responsible for all aspects of the fashion show, including:

  • Set coordination, construction and lighting
  • Poster and program design, including advertising sales
  • Photography
  • Videography
  • Music
  • Hair and makeup
  • Model selection and training

Annual Spring Fashion Show News

Awards for the 2015 student fashion show were presented by President Donna Carroll during the closing show on Sunday, March 29, 2015. With a theme of IlluminNATION, the show featured an amazing array of garments from students in the apparel design and merchandising program, as well as a dramatic stage set and runway and stimulating musical accompaniment.

The Outstanding Senior Collection was awarded to Tyehimba Turner for his collection titled "Sterling Silver: Microaggressions." Tye incorporated images of racial violence into his beautifully constructed pieces, all of which were modeled to the musical accompaniment of the late Billie Holiday's dramatic rendition of "Strange Fruit."
