Dominican’s apparel design and merchandising department imparts aesthetic and professional technical competence in fashion and costume design. The department fosters a liberal arts-centered understanding of apparel as both an art form and a business.


Awards for the 2015 student fashion show were presented by President Donna Carroll during the closing show on Sunday, March 29, 2015. With a theme of IlluminNATION, the show featured an amazing array of garments from students in the apparel design and merchandising program, as well as a dramatic stage set and runway and stimulating musical accompaniment.
The Outstanding Senior Collection was awarded to Tyehimba Turner for his collection titled "Sterling Silver: Microaggressions." Tye incorporated images of racial violence into his beautifully constructed pieces, all of which were modeled to the musical accompaniment of the late Billie Holiday's dramatic rendition of "Strange Fruit."
