Hans Christian Andersen Awards

The Hans Christian Andersen Award is the highest international recognition given to an
author and an illustrator of children's books. The Author's Award has been given since 1956 and the
Illustrator's Award since 1966. The nominations are made by the National Sections of the
International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) and the recipients are selected by a
distinguished international jury of children's literature specialists.
Kate Greenaway Medal

Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal

Library Association, the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award was first given to its namesake in 1954. The

Lee Bennett Hopkins Poetry Award

The Margaret A. Edwards Award

The Mildred L. Batchelder Award

This award honors Mildred L. Batchelder, a former executive director of the Association for
Library Service to Children, a believer in the importance of good books for children in translation

a foreign country, and subsequently translated into English and published in the United States.
The John Newbery Medal

Rebecca Caudill Readers Book Award

This Illinois award, co-sponsored by the Illinois Reading Council, the Illinois School
Library Media Association, and the Illinois Association of Teachers of English was developed to
encourage children and young adults to read for personal satisfaction. The web site includes

resources with advice for displays, and student reviews of nominees. Students can also submit their
own review of a book currently nominated.
Regina Medal

Association, is administered by the Children's Library Services Section through the Regina Medal
Committee at the will of the Catholic Library Association Executive Board. The medal honors an
