Shout Out: Luis Martinez ’11, freelance graphic designer

Luis Martinez ’11 of Franklin Park is a freelance graphic designer. When he's not working, he likes cheering for his favorite baseball team. 

Q: Where did you grow up and go to school?
A: I grew up in Franklin Park. I went to East Leyden High School, and I went to Dominican University. I majored in graphic design.

Q: Why did you want to major in graphic design?
A: I really liked art. I wanted to be an art teacher, but I felt there were more job opportunities for graphic design.

Q: Where do you work?
A: I currently work for Russo Power Equipment. I started doing graphic design there, but it turned into an e-commerce position. I'm currently the e-commerce supervisor.

Q: What are your responsibilities?
A: I do pretty much everything in the e-commerce department. I also do freelance graphic design work on the side.

Q: What kind of freelance work do you do?
A: I get most of my jobs from 99designs.com and crowdspring.com. Some people also come to me for logo designs.

Q: What do you like about being a graphic designer?
A: I love the work. I like creating new ideas and designs that are going to work for people.

Q: What do you like to do for fun?
A: I like to go to the gym, and I like to watch sports.

Q: What's your favorite sports team?
A: The Chicago Cubs!

Q: What did you do when they won the World Series?
A: I wanted to cry! I went to the parade.

Q: What will you be doing for the holidays this year?
A: I plan on spending time with my family.
