After 37 years with the Park Ridge Library, Janet Van De Carr MALS ’77 retired as the library's Director on June 19. On her last day, the library's staff made sure she had a proper farewell party.

Janet earned her bachelor's degree in literature but did not want to teach. A professor recommended she consider becoming a librarian, so she earned her master's degree from Dominican University in 1977.

Early jobs were at the Skokie Library and at Indian Trails, a library district serving Wheeling and Buffalo Grove. Janet was hired in March 1980 as Park Ridge's manager of Children's Services. She moved up to assistant director, and in 2000 to director.
