Former Governor of Illinois Pat Quinn, Jr. and Berto Aguayo '16

July 7, 2016

Berto Aguayo '16 graduated from Dominican University summa cum laude and has his sights on law school. Aguayo, the youngest student body president in University history, is pursuing a career as a civic leader.

At 21, Aguayo is confident and much wiser because of where he has been. He grew up in Chicago’s Back of the Yards neighborhood and joined a neighborhood gang at an early age. Aguayo was involved in life or death circumstances before deciding to do better in school and leave the gang.

The Chicago Community Trust recently profiled Aguayo and you can read the article, titled A Former Gang Member Finds New Power in Politics, at this link
